Garage Floor Coating Contractors in Kenosha for Salt-Proof Floors

Stained, pitted and salt-worn garage slabs ground, repaired and coated with a flake floor, then sealed under a clear topcoat so the winter drips from your car stop eating the concrete.

Free, no-obligation estimates. We look at the slab before we quote the coating.

The short answer

Garage Floor Coating Contractors in Kenosha

We coat residential garage floors in Kenosha with epoxy, polyurea and polyaspartic systems, laid over a slab we have ground open and repaired first.

A coating is a bonded floor system, not a coat of paint: it soaks into concrete that has been ground to an open surface, and the cracks and pits are filled before it goes down. The full system is a "flake floor": colored chips locked between a base coat and a clear "topcoat". The finished floor wipes clean, and its sealed top keeps oil, stains and road salt on the surface instead of in the slab.

The systems we install

Epoxy, polyurea and polyaspartic

Epoxy, polyurea and polyaspartic differ in how fast they cure and how they wear, and we choose between them by the floor you have and how you use the garage.

  • Epoxy system

The coating most people picture for a garage. It builds a hard, glossy floor and takes longer to cure than the other two, so the garage stays out of use a little longer.

    • Solid color or a light flake
    • A longer cure before you park on it
    • Suits a floor kept out of strong sun
  • The full flake floor

    Polyurea and polyaspartic flake system

Decorative flakes broadcast into a polyurea base coat, locked under a clear polyaspartic topcoat. It is the system built around salt, tires and a door that stands open to the sun.

    • Polyurea base coat that grips the ground slab
    • Flakes wall to wall that hide dirt and add grip
    • UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat that seals it all

Some branded coatings, RevaFlex among them, are sold only through authorized installers, so ask who is allowed to put one down. Coatings belong to the decorative concrete work the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) Decorative Concrete Council covers.

How the work goes

The coating process, step by step

We grind the slab open, fill the cracks, roll on a polyurea base coat, broadcast the flakes and finish with a polyaspartic topcoat. Here is each step in the order it happens.

  1. Grind the slab

The whole floor is ground to strip old sealers and stains and open the concrete so the coating can bite.

  2. Fill the cracks

Cracks, pits and flaking spots are filled and ground flush, so the new floor goes down over an even surface.

  3. Base coat

A polyurea base coat in the color you picked is rolled out from the back wall to the door.

  4. Broadcast the flakes

Decorative flakes are thrown into the wet base coat wall to wall, the step the trade calls the "broadcast", then the loose ones are swept off.

  5. Clear topcoat

A UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat seals the flakes in and gives the floor the clear, wipe-clean finish salt sits on.

What you are paying for

What our garage floor coating covers

We grind the slab, repair its cracks and pits, lay the base coat and flakes, and seal the floor under a clear topcoat, and all of it is in the quote.

Every garage floor coating we quote includes these, one per line:

  • Grinding. The whole garage slab ground open, edges and corners included.
  • Repairs. Cracks, pits and "spalling", the chipped and broken spots, filled and ground flush.
  • Color. A base coat and flake blend in the color you choose.
  • Finish. Flakes broadcast wall to wall for texture and grip underfoot.
  • Sealed top. A clear topcoat over everything, then cleanup when we are done.

Other questions about garage floor coating

Two questions come up on almost every garage we look at, and the answers below sit right next to the coating itself.

  • Slab condition first

A coating needs a sound slab under it, with the right depth and a drainage slope that carries water to the door. Strong base prep, a good mix and proper finishing are what make a garage floor last, so a slab that is sinking, heaving or holding water gets fixed before anything is coated.

  • Salt on garage floors

Salt dripping off a car all winter can scale bare concrete over time, leaving the flaking, pitted surface the trade calls "scaling". A sealed coating slows that damage, and on the driveway outside, sand is the safer choice than de-icers.

FAQ

Garage floor coating questions

What is the average cost to coat a garage floor?

Garage floor coating in Kenosha typically runs $5 to $8 a square foot, and a one-car garage typically comes to $1,300 to $2,100. Where yours lands depends on the floor's size, how much repair it needs and the system you choose. We measure it and quote the whole job free before we start.

What is the highest rated garage floor coating?

No one coating wins on every floor, so we do not rank them. A flake floor puts decorative flakes over a polyurea base coat under a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat, and epoxy is the other common system. Which one suits your garage follows the slab and how you use it, and we tell you which on the estimate visit.

How much does it cost to epoxy a 500 square foot garage floor?

Multiply the floor's area by the typical per-square-foot range in the first answer above for a rough figure. Deep cracks, pitting and the system you pick move it from there, so the exact number comes after we see the floor's condition.

How much does it cost to epoxy 1000 square feet of flooring?

A floor that size is priced on the same per-square-foot basis, and a larger area spreads our setup further. Its condition and the system still set the final number, and you have that number from us, in full, before any work starts.
